New Year, New York, New You
Our Must- Do List for The Start of 2018 in The City
From new openings, groundbreaking exhibits, door-busting deals, and fun-filled activities, New York’s calendar is already brimming with options for the start of the New Year. With the holidays behind us and resolutions intact, the promise of a new year brings a chance to break out of our old routines and partake in new adventures. Whether you are seeking culturally stimulating options, opportunities and exhibitions to revisit pivotal moments in history, or want to use the new year to “treat yourself,” New York City doesn’t disappoint with a line up that ensures the new year will be anything but boring.
Winter JazzFest
With each new year, Greenwich Village comes alive with its annual January Winter Jazzfest. Touted as one of the best concerts in NYC, the two-night extravaganza brings jazz’s best talent to downtown’s most picturesque village. The marathon of music marries both the genres most-beloved vets as well as its most promising up-and-comers. A wristband offers access to any of the shows, and allows for barhopping, one of New York’s favorite past times. Access is granted on a first come first serve basis at each of the venues, so ensure that you arrive early. However, if one venue is at capacity, there are a myriad of nearby spots to pop into. This year’s JazzFast will run from Wednesday, January 10, 2018 to Wednesday, January 17, 2018, with the marathon happening Friday, January 12, 2018 and Saturday, January 13, 2018. The marathon portion of the event will be held at approximately a dozen venues (exact venues are to be announced, with additional events at Le Poisson Rouge and New School Tishman Auditorium.
Advance tickets and pricing for the show may be found at the official festival website.
American Visionary: John F. Kennedy's Life and Times
Open every day except for Mondays, American Visionary: John F. Kennedy’s Life and Times is an exceptional showcase for lovers of American history. The exhibition commemorates President John F. Kennedy’s private life and public trajectory. The exhibition organizers promise “one of the most exhaustively researched collections of Kennedy photos ever assembled, it brings together images from the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, Getty Images, private collections, and the Kennedy family archives that capture public and private moments from Kennedy’s life. Some of the photographs on display are iconic; others have rarely been seen.” Hosted in honor of JFK's centennial, visitors will get to see more than seventy-five photographs from the iconic Camelot and election photos to images from his private life.
The exhibition is open now and will run through January 7th, 2018.

Broadway Discount Week
As we highlighted in our September post, we don’t think that there is anything more synonymous with New York City than the bright lights of Broadway. And though we know that The Great White Way has always been a major draw for fans, we also know that the sometimes-steep ticket prices can limit the amount of shows that we can enjoy. NYC & Company, the founders of the New York Restaurant Week, which has helped us indulge our most discerning foodie for affordable prices, now have an amazing option for lovers of theater. From January 16-February 4, the organization will host NYC Broadway Week, which will offer 2-for-1 deals on select theater shows. The shows are still to be announced, but be certain to visit their official website for the latest updates and announcements.
New York Restaurant Week
The aforementioned, New York Restaurant Week will also be back come January. Set to run from January 22 through February 9, the always-anticipated event makes the city’s priciest restaurants accessible, with three-course options available for affordable prices. Restaurant Week always benefits a worthy cause. Past charities benefited by Restaurant Week include Citymeals-On-Wheels, Share Our Strength (currently No Kid Hungry), and City Harvest. Participating venues offer either lunch and dinner options with a fixed price of $29 for lunch and $42 dollars for dinner, all at three courses (not including tax and gratuity).
