A CITY FOR SPORTS FANATICS

Our Picks for New York’s Best Athletic Attractions

Sports fans can rejoice with the city’s abundance of activities and experiences that cater to all things athletic. With everything from the world’s most famous stadiums and arenas to sprawling complexes offering activities to enjoy, New York City is a playground for anyone seeking to indulge their inner athletes. We’ve listed some of our favorites to add to every sport lover’s itinerary.

US OPEN
August 27 – September 9, 2018

The US Tennis Open is the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the tennis calendar year and is undoubtedly the sport’s biggest, best, and most highly anticipated event for both players and fans alike. The tournament spans over a two week period from late August through early September, and always features the tennis world’s brightest stars. Some of the sport’s most hailed moments happened at this tournament, including Arthur Ashe's historic win at the first US Open in 1968 and "Super Saturday," which has been dubbed as one of the greatest days in tennis history.

YANKEE STADIUM
For those who bleed pinstripes, Yankee Stadium is the absolute holy grail for sporting attractions. The league’s most decorated and famous team got an updated home when their new stadium was constructed in 2019. The behemoth that will always be “The House That Ruth Built” is located in the Bronx on East 161 Street and River Avenue and seats over 54,000 die-hard Yankee fans. Visitors should be sure to also visit Babe Ruth Plaza, a public park that is open year-round and retells the life of the legendary baseball legend. Also at the stadium are Monument Park and the New York Yankees Museum, located on the Main Level. Make sure you don’t miss this sporting mecca and get ready to partake in hot dogs, Cracker Jacks, and America’s favorite pastime.

CHELSEA PIERS
New York’s ultimate playground is a massive sporting and entertainment complex on Manhattan’s West Side. In addition to sweeping water views of the Hudson River, the venue offers a wide variety of athletic activities, including rock climbing, skating, batting cages, a bowling alley, a gym, and even a spa. Visitors can also perfect their golf swing with a simulators and a driving range.
