Shine Bright Like a Diamond

New York’s Most Iconic Names in Carats

Though they start out as a lump of simple, nondescript, black coal, diamonds have become iconic symbols of status, love, and glamour. Nothing dazzles like a diamond, and Manhattan has some of the biggest names in the industry. Whether you’re on the hunt for an eternal symbol for your love, feel like treating yourself, or simply want to window shop, there’s no better place to do it than in the Big Apple. With an array of the world’s best jewelry designers and legendary jewelry houses throughout the city, we’ve curated a list of our favorite diamond dealers in the area.

Tiffany and Co.

Spanning an impressive ten floors, Tiffany and Company’s iconic flagship store is a must-do for your Manhattan sightseeing list. Here, the diamonds are as flawless as Miss Golightly herself, but even if you’re not in the market for diamonds, seeing the Fifth Avenue landmark is a memory not to be missed. As quoted by Town and Country Magazine, “There are few stores as intrinsically associated with New York City as the Tiffany & Co. flagship store on Fifth Avenue. It was through those windows that Audrey Hepburn's Holly Golightly stared as she ate her morning croissant in Breakfast at Tiffany's; there that blue was transformed from mere "robin's egg" to an icon of elegance.”

Harry Winston

Also located on iconic Fifth Avenue is another legendary name in diamonds. Here, the boxes are a darker shade of blue, but are equally, if not more revered, for their craftsmanship and quality. Welcome to the world of Harry Winston, a step into unmatched luxury and a place where price is no object. Founded in New York City in 1932, Mr. Winston, a gemologist, made a name for himself as the “King of Diamonds” and “Jeweler to the Stars” with his fine jewelry and refined watchmaking skills. Mr. Winston’s legacy lives on today with timeless pieces beloved by starlets and celebrities.

Cartier at Hudson Yards

Located in New York’s own“city within a city,” Cartier at Hudson Yards is located in the eighteen-million square foot, $25-billion development. We suggest you make an afternoon of your visit, indulging in a delicious brunch before popping into the iconic, luxury jeweler. The diamonds at Cartier are renowned for their quality, with some of the world’s most famous diamonds being commissioned by the House of Cartier. Pieces from the legendary house include Grace Kelly’s engagement ring, the Hope Diamond, and the Burton-Taylor Diamond.

The Diamond District

For those who might not want to venture into the high prices of the above legendary jewelry houses, but still want to head home with a bit of sparkle, venture into Manhattan’s famous Diamond District. Home to more than 4,000 jewelers and wholesalers and located in Midtown Manhattan, the entire street is a collection of jewelry stores selling various types of gemstones, fine jewelry and diamonds. Because you’re not buying from a known name, it’s best to do your research and know exactly what you’re buying. As an insider tip, ensure that the diamond has been properly graded by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or AGS (America Gem Society).
